Are you eco-friendly?

The term “eco-friendly” is used to describe activities which are good for the environment. It is a shortening of “ecologically friendly,” and you may also hear terms like “environmentally friendly” or “green” used to describe similar activities. There are a range of ways in which activities can be eco-friendly, ranging from products which are constructed in an environmentally friendly way to making lifestyle changes which are designed to benefit the environment.

Our planet is dying, man to become a mindset to overcome and dominate nature, grow economically, wasting natural resources which all human beings us to the fact of being human. The
man has to respect the human rights of humanity, both, the 6,000 million human beings living on planet earth and those who are yet to come. to them are obligatory reserve a world, to them is obligatory reserve a world with hope, with a healthy environment that allows them to live a decent life in a better world with equality.

The principal problem are waste management, climate change, pollution and the global warming.

I have listed some ways to help the environment.

1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Compost
Reusing packaging material saves more energy than recycling. By avoiding extra packaging, you save both energy and landfill space. Yard and kitchen waste (leaves/grass/vegetable scraps) are 30% of trash. Reduce this amount by composting. Also be sure to re-use plastic bags, or better yet... refuse plastic bags when you really don't need them.

2. Conserve water
Don't let faucets run. Never water your lawn at midday. Place a brick in old toilets. Take low flow short showers. Run the dishwasher only when it is full. Let grass grow longer. Plant native or drought-tolerant garden plants.

3. Quit smoking
Second-hand smoke is a major indoor air pollutant and health hazard. When you quit, both you and your family will lead longer and healthier lives.

4. Eat less meat/eat more local and organic foods
Feedlots are a major source of organic pollution. Tropical forests are cut to raise beef.

5. Dispose of old paint, chemicals, and oil properly
Don't put batteries, antifreeze, paint, motor oil, or chemicals in the trash. Use proper toxics disposal sites. Never buy more than you need.

6. Volunteer/Lobby for the Environment
Work locally and globally to save natural places, reduce urban sprawl, lower pollution and prevent the destruction of wilderness areas for timber and oil.

7.Switch to fluorescent light bulbs.
They are more energy efficient and although they cost more, they last longer.

8. Alternative Energy
Consider alternative energy options such as solar power. Even when used on a small scale it helps decrease electricity use.

9. Reduce Energy Consumption
Turn lights, computers and televisions off when not in use.

World Celebration:Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. Traditionally, it has been a time to give thanks for a abundant  harvest. While there was not religious element in the original celebration, Thanksgiving today is primarily identified as a secular holiday.
Currently, in Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated on November 6 th  and in the United States it is celebrated on November 26 th. Although the day is different from traditional activities are the same
Most people celebrate this festival with family in their homes where they prepare a feast. In many homes it is common to offer a prayer of thanks, The traditional dish for dinner is a great roast turkey or baked, This turkey is traditionally accompanied with a filling made of cornbread, vegetables dishes and mashed potatoes also often served a variety of desserts, pumpkin pie being the most popular. It is also common to prepare the pecan pie and apple.
Annually, the department store Macy's made a big parade through the streets of Manhattan, New York, which attracts millions of people to Broadway to see the huge, giant balloons and watch the performances of many artists.

LOCAL HOLIDAY: CHINITA´S  FAIR!!

My favorite holiday is the chinita´s fair. The people of Maracaibo celebrate the Chinita's fair in November for three days, from November 17th to November 19th. One of the main city avenues, Bella Vista, is closed for several blocks and the city puts lights along the whole avenue. The lights stay up for months, until after Christmas. There are firework shows and street vendors, and hundreds of thousands of people celebrate all night. The Chinita’s fair officially begins the last Saturday of October when the Virgin is taken down from the altar in which she rests. She tours all over the Zulia State and returns to the Basilica to start all the religious festivities.
Other cultural activities are held during the fair. Expo-Zulia is a temporary marketplace where the zulians show a great deal products that characterize our region. The Bullfights are also popular and a number of these are held in our bullring. Many gaiteros meet in front of the basilica to sing their best gaitas to please the patron virgin.
The last two days of the Chinita’s fair are the most special. The night of the 17th, many people enjoy the concerts and gaita groups that sing in the different places of our city. The party begins on the 17
th and lasts until the 18th. I love it, I always go with my friends and my boyfriend and we having fun in the Gaitero Daybreak, then we usually go to the Chinita’s baseball game and later in the afternoon I go to the basilica with my family.
